Biomechanics and its effect on equine performance”
Presented by Erik Mackechnie-Guire FBHS and Dr Russell Mackechnie-Guire
The National Pony Society established its first committee in Scotland in 1961 and re-launched in 2001 as the NPS Scotland. Its aims and objectives remain the same namely to promote the interests in the breeding, improvement, showing and welfare of the Native Breeds and the British Riding Pony in Scotland.
In celebration of these 60 years, NPS Scotland is hosting the first Biomechanics event in Scotland led by two experts in the field. This event should deliver a memorable and unique day for the participants through practical displays enhanced by modern technology and discussions supported by theory and scientific evidence.

NPS Scotland Committee
NPS Scotland team of Gregor MacMillan, Hannah Nicholson, Alexandra MacMillan and Shanyn Wilson gave a sterling performance on Monday 2nd August at the NPS Summer Championships, Malvern to come Overall 3rd in the competition, and be the highest placed Mountain and Moorland team. Gregor won the 19 – 25 years section, Alexandra was 3rd and Hannah 6th in the 14 – 18 years section.
A huge thank you must go to the team for representing NPS Scotland along with all parents and supporters that allowed this to happen and a special thank you to Richard Telford who coached the team.
A great result, and well done everyone.
Again NPS Scotland had a beautiful sunny weekend at the picturesque setting of Strathallan Castle, Auchterarder for their Summer Show on Sat 24th & Sun 25th July 2021. Some lovely ponies forward and entries travelling from the island of Shetland in the North to the Scottish Borders.
As usual Graham Barclay built a great Working Hunter Pony course on Saturday to find our Supreme Working Hunter pony of the show, Shambo Ben owned and ridden by Ellis Simister from Ayrshire.
The Sunday brought the In Hand and Ridden exhibitors with some very strong classes forward in the M & M sections. This day was Trailtrow Tearlach’s, owned and bred by Gillian McMurray and shown by Gillian to take the Supreme In Hand before daughter Kirstin rode him to also take the Supreme Ridden Championship.
Our grateful thanks to Anna Roberts at Strathallan Castle for allowing us to hold our show there and to all the judges, stewards, sponsors, and helpers who we couldn’t run without, and of course to all our exhibitors who supported the show to make it a great day for everyone.
